Chapter 89:
“This isn’t the case in the Wharton villa.”
At this point, Brian nodded, took the tableware, and sat down in a corner to eat slowly, but he was very cautious. Herbert directly handed a lot of dishes to Miranda, filling her bowl.
Miranda looked very nervous, which only puzzled me more. Herbert raised his head and said, “Miranda is an old servant of my family. She’s been taking care of me since I was a child. This time, since you’ve been in poor health, I brought her from the Wharton family to take care of you.”
Only then did I understand. No wonder Herbert was so respectful toward Miranda, while she was very cautious around him.
“Thank you so much for taking care of me,” I said with a smile, although I still felt a little uneasy.
I had never had a dedicated servant to look after me before, and I had always felt capable of taking care of myself. But, considering it was Herbert’s concern, I didn’t refuse and chose to accept it.
That night, Herbert’s eating habits were completely different from before. He ate very slowly and didn’t eat much at all. Even though the last time he ate rice I cooked for him, he ate with such elegance and finished a lot. Why was he eating so little now? Miranda had always taken care of him, so she should know his tastes by now.
Miranda frowned and said, “Young master, why are you eating so little?”
“I haven’t eaten too much,” he replied, pushing the tableware in front of him, getting up, and walking out.
I frowned.
“You haven’t eaten too much?”
Why had he finished all the dinner I cooked the first time? Was he really that hungry that day?
“Madam, please eat more,” Miranda said with a smile.
Looking at Miranda, a new question arose in my mind regarding Herbert’s family. He had never told me that Miranda had been taking care of him. I wondered about her history with the family.
I thought for a moment and then asked tentatively, “Miranda, who are the members of Herbert’s family?”
Bella’s POV:
“Didn’t Sir tell you?” Miranda asked in surprise.
I was stunned for a moment and replied, “You should know that he doesn’t want to talk about his family.”
“Yes, his character is indeed like that,” Miranda nodded.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
“It seems that my observation is correct.”
After a while, Miranda added, “Mr. Herbert’s grandfather and grandmother are gone. His parents are still around, and he has a sister. But she went abroad to study, and Mr. Herbert doesn’t go back to the family villa often.”
“Oh,” I nodded.
It seemed that his family wasn’t complicated, but it didn’t seem to have much to do with me. Although Herbert and I had gotten our marriage certificate, we weren’t exactly a normal couple. Maybe I didn’t need to deal with his family at all.
I had just finished my meal when Miranda began to clean up. I wanted to help, but she asked me to rest.
