Chapter 83:
As soon as I finished speaking, I saw the ugly expression on Herbert’s face.
I realized that I may have said something wrong.
“It’s up to you!” he snapped.
With that, he slammed the door and left. I frowned, loosening my grip on the door. What was going on with Herbert? Was this his usual temperament? It was so strange!
I couldn’t help but sigh at his erratic mood. This wasn’t the right way. I needed to find a way to ease our relationship. After all, I was living in his house. For my own well-being, I couldn’t keep making him angry. I thought for a long time and decided that I needed to be more gentle with him.
Herbert’s POV:
Bella didn’t sleep in the same room as me!
She even said she needed her own space?
I went back to the master bedroom, feeling irritated. Nothing seemed right. I picked up my phone and dialed a number.
“Mr. Wharton, what can I do for you?” Allie’s voice came through from the other end of the line.
“There’s no need to arrange for anyone to attend the official meeting tomorrow morning. I’ll handle it myself,” I said.
“But the flight tickets for the people who were arranged have already been booked…” she replied.
“Cancel it! Don’t you understand what I’m saying?” I snapped.
“Yes, I got it. I’ll book a ticket for you right away.” Allie hung up the phone.
I put my phone down on the bed and stood in front of the window, hands on my hips. I suddenly felt ridiculous. How could something so trivial set off my anger? Or was it the person living next door, fueling this irritation?
I lowered my head and shook it. I realized I had been too immersed in this act. It was time to cool off.
The next morning, when I woke up, I saw Bella had already prepared breakfast.
“Breakfast is ready,” she said with a smile, wearing an apron.
I almost couldn’t look away, but soon I regained my composure. I had to keep myself in check; I couldn’t let myself be affected by this.
“There’s no need. I’m in a hurry,” I said indifferently.
Unexpectedly, Bella moved in front of me, blocking my way.
“Even if you’re in a hurry, you have to eat. I’ve made it,” she said.
I hadn’t finished speaking when Bella reached out and grabbed my hand, pulling me to the dining table.
“Eat quickly. It won’t take more than a few minutes.”
I looked at the food she had prepared—sandwiches, roasted bread, milk, and fried eggs. I sat at the table and ate it all.
I sat opposite Herbert, watching him eat. He looked so elegant as he did, sitting straight, looking ahead, and not saying a word. He carried himself like a noble prince. Watching him eat was almost enjoyable in itself.
The house was so quiet that I couldn’t help but break the silence.
“Breakfast is very important, especially for someone like you who has to work all morning. If you skip it, it’s easy to get sick,” I said.
“Can you let me be quiet for a while? You’re like an annoying fly, buzzing around me!” Herbert suddenly raised his head and said, visibly annoyed.
