I no longer had any expectations for Herbert.
Bella’s POV:
I wouldn’t be disappointed if I didn’t have any expectations.
“Hey, that’s your husband!”
Joey reminded me, smiling bitterly.
“In my heart, he is just the father of my child.”
“In fact, I think the boss feels something special for you. You’re a legal couple now. You can work hard at it. What if you actually become a real couple from a fake one? Besides, you have a child. Even if it doesn’t work out, you won’t lose anything!”
Joey advised me.
I couldn’t help rolling my eyes at her.
“I lost my most precious self-esteem!”
“How much is self-esteem worth?”
Joey said dismissively.
I didn’t agree with her.
Yes, self-esteem may seem worthless now, but I still try to protect it, especially in front of Herbert. I don’t know why, but I truly don’t want to lower my head in front of him and feel looked down upon.
After work, I walked into the house, changed my shoes, and called out to my mom out of habit.
“Mom, I’m back!”
My mom, who was wearing an apron and holding a spatula in her hand, immediately poked her head out of the kitchen.
“Are you hungry? Dinner will be ready soon.”
I washed my hands and was about to sit down to eat when my mom suddenly said, “Bella, your cousin’s wedding is this Saturday. Let’s go together.”
Hearing that, I frowned.
Although I have a good relationship with my uncle and cousin, I didn’t want to attend the wedding because of my father’s family.
There might be another conflict, and not to mention how angry I was, I might ruin someone else’s wedding.
My mother tried to persuade me, “Aunt Carter personally sent the invitation. We have to go.”
I glanced at my mother. I knew that, although she didn’t say it, she still couldn’t let go of my father, Ryan, after all these years.
In fact, my mother really wanted to see Ryan, even though I strongly disagreed. But her life isn’t mine to control. I couldn’t make decisions for her. As her daughter, I could only respect her wishes and be there to support her when she needed me. So, I nodded and agreed.
“Okay.”
My mom was very happy…
Soon, it was Saturday. I accompanied my mom to attend my cousin’s wedding.
The groom was wearing a black tuxedo, looking very solemn. The bride was dressed in a snow-white wedding gown, her makeup exquisite.
