Chapter 68:
“Of course not!” The female colleague shook her head in disdain.
Joey came over to me and consoled me.
“Leave them alone. They’re just talking nonsense.”
“In fact, what they said makes sense.”
I couldn’t help feeling even more down.
At that moment, another sound came from the door. A female colleague came in, smiling.
“I just saw a huge piece of news!”
“Another piece of news? Isn’t there enough news today? Tell me, who is it about?” Female colleague A asked.
“If it wasn’t for the fact that it’s related to Mr. Wharton, would I have the nerve to bring it up as news?” Female colleague B said with a mysterious smile.
Bella’s POV:
I couldn’t help but move closer to listen to their conversation.
“What’s going on? Tell me quickly!”
The female colleagues were all very excited.
Female colleague B then said, “I went to look for Allie just now and saw that Emma had come again. She insisted on seeing Mr. Wharton, but Allie refused to let her in. She even said that Mr. Wharton didn’t have time to see Emma!”
“This is news? I knew long ago it was impossible for Emma and Mr. Wharton to have a long-term relationship. It’s impossible for him to like someone like her.”
Female colleague A curled her lips.
I felt uneasy hearing their words.
“Hasn’t the relationship between Herbert and Emma Briden been very ambiguous recently?”
She even said yesterday that she would be the president’s wife! Why did she suddenly disappear? Does he have a new lover? Thinking of this, I felt a little down.
Female colleague B continued laughing.
“That Emma, holding that magazine in her hand, came crying to ask Allie whether Mr. Wharton was really married, and who his wife was. Can you believe it? I heard that her personal life is a mess. She even dreamed of becoming Mr. Wharton’s wife!”
Hearing this, I felt a small sense of relief. I could almost imagine the look of despair on Emma’s face.
“It’s fine if she wants to marry someone else, but how dare she think she could marry Herbert? If he’s not a fool, he will never marry her,” I thought. Of course, my father abandoned my mother and sister to marry Emma’s mother. His brain must have been broken, but after all these years, my father still seemed to be proud of that decision.
Finally, it was time to leave work. Joey and I walked out of the office together.
Joey teased me, “Is our boss trying to get rid of Emma as soon as possible, which is why he accepted the exclusive interview and admitted he’s married?”
I stared at her in shock. I really hadn’t thought of that possibility. As long as Emma had been using Uncle John, Herbert wouldn’t have refused her outright.
The Wharton family had always been extremely grateful. It was said that Uncle John had a very good relationship with Herbert’s father. In an accident, Uncle John had saved his father’s life, so Herbert couldn’t refuse his request.
“Who knows? It’s his business, and it has nothing to do with me,” I replied.
