Bride of Mr. Billion - Chapter 60

Chapter 60:

Joey laughed as she sat down.

“If we’re willing to bel, we’re admitting defeat, OK? We were the ones who bet on Mr Wharton coming to the resort, and you’re betting that Mr Wharton won’t!”

“You guys are too petty, aren’t you? Each of you has won three to four thousand dollars, and yet none of you can spare a little to treat us to barbecue?” Colleague B stood up and teased.

Joey was about to respond when I patted her on the shoulder, stood up, and said loudly, “It’s just a treat. It’s a piece of cake. Barbecue sounds great, and you guys can’t change the menu!”

“Just barbecue and beer!” the colleagues chimed in.

“Okay, tomorrow night!” I declared boldly.

At that moment, the atmosphere suddenly shifted. Before I could react, a colleague called out, “Mr. Wharton!”

Hearing that name, I froze. Slowly, I turned my head and saw Herbert standing behind me, his expression dark and unreadable.

“Mr. Wharton,” I greeted him hurriedly, then lowered my head, avoiding his gaze.

Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed Herbert’s expression growing even more severe, and my nerves tightened.

After Herbert left, the colleagues began to murmur among themselves.

“Is Mr. Wharton upset that we were using him as a bet?”

“Oh no, our finance department has offended him.”

“Can he really be that petty?”

Listening to their whispers, I grew increasingly anxious. Herbert’s expression had been truly unsettling. Was he really angry?

“Do you think he’ll mind that I used him as a bet?” I asked Joey, seeking reassurance.

Joey shook her head.

“It’s your bad luck. You won 4,000 dollars but ended up offending the big boss. Not worth it.”

“Then what should I do?” I tugged at my long hair anxiously.

“Say something sweet and find a way to make him happy,” Joey suggested with a sly smile.

I frowned, feeling awkward.

“I can’t do that.”

Joey looked at me impatiently.

“Why can’t you? You’re legally married.”

I pursed my lips and remained silent, feeling a mix of annoyance and frustration. Didn’t he go to work? Why did he come back at noon?

“I’m really unlucky. How could he have overheard me?”

After lunch, everyone began packing up to leave. I was no exception and headed to the VIP area to gather my luggage.

As soon as I entered the villa, I looked up and saw Allie standing in the living room, my suitcase neatly packed beside her.

“Madam, your luggage has been packed,” Allie said with a polite smile.

I looked at my suitcase, grabbed it, and then glanced upstairs. Finally, I couldn’t help but ask, “Is… is he gone?”
