Chapter 269:
“Because it’s not the right time,” she replied weakly, yet firmly. “One of our mates isn’t ready to accept us.”
Mate? Maybe I wasn’t hearing her correctly.
“What do I do, Rue?” I asked, my voice dripping with confusion. “I am literally out of options.”
“The castle is your home, and the triplets are yours. You don’t want to give up your rightful position to someone else,” she advised, leaving me more confused than before.
The triplets were mine, and the castle was my home? But I wasn’t welcomed.
I tried to make sense of her words again, but it just wasn’t adding up. The only way the triplets could be mine, and the castle could be my home, was if I were Luna. But I was a slave, and it was rare to have three mates at once.
I sighed, worried, and dismissed Rue’s words.
“Are you sure you’re alright, Rue?”
“Trust your instincts, Aurora,” she said firmly before disappearing from my mind.
Aurora
Rue’s words caught me by surprise.
It baffled me that she didn’t explain herself further before retreating back into my mind.
Lost in the abyss of confusion, I left the corridor and walked toward my room.
I was careful this time, making sure not to bump into the grumpy Mistress of Evil. Her drama was the last thing I needed.
My eyes followed the direction where Damon and Jasper had gone, and the urge to follow them consumed me.

He doesn’t want you, Aurora, leave him alone!
My subconscious shouted at me, slapping some common sense back into me. The last thing I wanted was to get caught and thrown into the dungeon.
I discarded the thought and walked toward my room instead.
Unlike my previous luxurious room, this one was shabby.
It screamed slave’s room. The room was nearly empty, save for a mattress, a small wooden table, and a wooden chair.
Damon had instructed me to stay there without a servant to help me until he decided what to do with me. But it had been days.
Maybe he hadn’t found the right punishment yet, but I wasn’t particularly concerned about that.
Rue’s words hammered against my heart as I sat on the chair, lost in my thoughts.
I didn’t realize someone had entered the room until I was shaken.
I almost fell off the chair in fright when a soft hand grabbed me.
Heaving a sigh of relief, my heartbeat returned to normal as I saw Alex with a worried look plastered on her face.
I was about to smile and embrace her, but then I stopped myself. What was the use?
She probably saw me as a bad person now.
