Chapter 193:
Her body was pale, almost ghostly. Bags had formed under her bloodshot eyes. She looked like she had been crying for days.
Had she even slept at all?
“You heard my question,” I bellowed, trying to mask the concern creeping into my voice.
“My name is Aurora Gray and I am running for my life.”
“Why?” Dax asked, raising his knife higher, above her head.
“Put it down, Dax,” I ordered.
“But…”
“Put it down.”
I hated it whenever he argued with me.
Reluctantly, Dax lowered the knife, and Aurora let out a deep sigh of relief.
“What is after you?” I asked, tilting my head to meet her gaze.
“I was framed. Someone drugged me and set me up. Now, he banished me forever.” Her voice cracked with emotion, and tears choked her words, making it difficult for her to speak.
“Who banished you?” I couldn’t help but ask, my interest growing as her story unfolded.
“How do I even know she’s telling the truth?” Dax muttered under his breath.
“Relax, Dax, she’s telling the truth,” I reassured him.
“The King… he wouldn’t even let me explain…” Her uncontrollable wailing grew louder this time. “Please, don’t kill me.”

“No one is killing you,” I assured her, squatting down to pat her shoulder.
“Thank you,” she mouthed, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.
“Please, can I spend the night at your house? I’ve been in the woods for days, feeding on fruits and edible leaves. Large trees are my only shelter. I’m cold, I have nowhere to go. I’m starving, my legs are weak, and I’m afraid I’ll pass out if I keep going like this.” She hadn’t finished speaking before her stomach let out a loud growl. Her face contorted in discomfort, as if someone were clenching her stomach.
“Fine,” I replied coldly.
The idea of her staying with us didn’t sit well with me, but I couldn’t let her roam around in the forest. If she didn’t starve to death, she’d be eaten by wild animals.
“Release her, Dax,” I commanded, pointing at Aurora as she struggled with pain.
“If you try anything stupid, I’ll kill you without a trace,” Dax warned, his voice low and menacing as he let out a threatening growl.
“Get up!” I ordered.
She was about to stand when blood began to ooze between her legs.
“My son!” she screamed in pain, horror flashing in her eyes.
“Are you pregnant?” Dax asked.
“Quick, help her, she’s losing blood!” I urged, panic rising within me.
