Chapter 1890:
Carola’s entire body shook with rage.
She could not even find words for the pain tearing through her heart. Hatred seethed like fire in her chest.
She hated Baker. She hated Holley. And she hated Kylee.
Kylee looked at Carola with tearful eyes, her voice trembling as she said, “Mom, I know you must be heartbroken, and I know you’re worried about your daughter right now. But… I’ve been your daughter for so many years. You can’t be so cruel to me.”
Carola shot back, “If it weren’t for your father and mother swapping you with my child, how could you ever have been my daughter? While you basked in the love and privileges of this family, what about my daughter? What was she doing? She was drowning in shame because of her looks. All of this—every bit of it—is your parents’ fault. Your whole family is guilty. None of you is innocent.”
By the end, she was shouting at the top of her lungs.
Seeing her emotions spiral out of control, Lyle quickly stepped forward, took her arm, and guided her back to her seat. “Aunt Carola, please, calm down.”
After a brief pause, he continued, “We all understand your anger and your hatred toward them. We feel the same. I promise you, none of them will get away with this. We will make sure they pay. But you must take care of yourself. Don’t let your anger affect your health.”
Kylee’s face turned ashen when she heard that. What did he mean by that?
Would she face their retaliation as well?
No, that couldn’t happen.
She was innocent. She had nothing to do with the child swap.
Kylee spoke at once. “Lyle, I—”
“Shut up.”
Her words were cut off abruptly by Lyle’s harsh, commanding voice.

Lyle snapped his head toward Kylee, his eyes cold. “You have no right to say anything now.”
Kylee’s breath caught. Tears welled in her reddened eyes, blurring his features. It felt as though invisible claws were raking across her heart, tearing it apart one shred at a time.
She had braced herself for this. She had long known that once her true parentage came to light, the Happer family would never treat her the same way again. She had thought she was ready.
But she hadn’t expected them to be this cruel.
She was not Carola’s biological daughter, that was true, but she had lived under the Happer family’s roof for years. How could they cast her aside so easily?
Across from her, Lyle’s jaw clenched. He knew she had been aware of her real parentage for a long time, and he refused to forgive her. The thought that his real cousin had suffered all these years because of Kylee and her family gnawed at him.
He could no longer face Kylee with any semblance of calm.
Nearby, Baker shifted restlessly. Watching the Happer family turn on his daughter pained him deeply. He had already said that Kylee had nothing to do with the matter. Why did they still treat her this way?
