“Oh, Grandpa, Kylee called me today. She wants to meet. Do you think I should go?”
“Of course.” Galen allowed a faint smile.
“Go and see what she has to say. And while you’re at it, try to gauge—subtly—whether Kylee has even the slightest inkling about her true parentage.”
Lyle replied with a serious expression, “Alright. I understand. Expect my update soon.”
“Good. We need to get Carola’s DNA sample and send it off for testing first.” With that, Galen pushed himself up from the sofa.
“Let’s go.”
The two of them walked out of the café.

After leaving the café, Belinda drove straight to Lucas’ company.
She soon stepped into his office. The moment Lucas saw her, his lips curved into a smile, his mood visibly lifting.
“Well, this is a pleasant surprise. What brings you to see me at work today?” he said.
Belinda crossed the room without hesitation, sat on his lap, and looped her arms around his neck.
With unhurried ease, she said, “I just met with Galen and Lyle.”
At that, Lucas arched a brow.
“The Happers? What business did they have with you?”
Belinda’s red lips pressed together before she answered, “They… seem to have started questioning my parentage as well.”
“Is that so?” Lucas leaned in slightly, his curiosity sparking.
“Tell me everything.”
Belinda replied, “Galen asked me a string of questions—about whether Baker and Holley treat me well, about how I’m doing on my own, even about how you’ve been treating me… Don’t you think it’s strange he’s suddenly taking such an interest in my well-being now of all times?”
“Indeed.” After hearing Belinda out, Lucas let his lips curve into a faint smile.

“You know, because Kylee has HIV, the Happer family has been hostile toward us. Galen suddenly wants to show concern for you now just because you saved Carola last time? That doesn’t make sense. Why didn’t he care before? Why only now?”
He paused, reflecting for a moment before continuing, “And since Carola insisted that Elwood must be her child’s father, then after the paternity test between Elwood and Kylee came back, she probably started questioning Kylee’s parentage. The Happer family isn’t stupid. Whatever we’ve thought of, they can figure out as well.”
Belinda lowered her lashes and gave a small nod.
“Yeah. So, when I was leaving, Lyle pretended there was something in my hair and pulled a strand out. I’m guessing he wanted to use it for a DNA test.”
“Then let’s just wait,” Lucas said evenly.
“We’ll see which test results arrive first.”
