Chapter 1870:
Then suddenly—
“Ouch!” Belinda gasped.
A sudden sting shot across her scalp.
Lyle withdrew his hand at once.
“Sorry, I must have pulled your hair by mistake.”
Belinda shot him a long, penetrating look, but eventually chose silence. She turned and walked out the door.
As the private room door clicked shut behind her, Lyle exhaled heavily.
“Did you get it?” Galen asked in a low, urgent tone.
Lyle nodded and held up his hand, two fine strands of hair pinched between his fingers, roots intact. He slipped them carefully into an evidence pouch.
After closing the pouch securely, Lyle turned to his grandfather.
“Grandpa, do you really think Belinda could be Aunt Carola’s biological daughter?”
Galen’s face grew somber.
“I can’t be absolutely certain, but I’d say there’s an eighty percent chance.”
Lyle nodded, his tone firm.
“I agree. If Aunt Carola’s child was switched at birth, the person most likely behind it would be Baker. Especially since Baker and Holley’s child was born the very same day, in the same hospital, and almost at the same time. That makes the possibility even higher.”
“Yes.” Galen exhaled heavily, then carried on with his reasoning.
“Besides, we’re all well aware of the way Baker treats his so-called daughter, Belinda.”
He stopped for a beat before continuing, “Think about it from Baker’s point of view—if Belinda truly were his flesh and blood, the child born of the woman he adored, how could he possibly treat her with such coldness? And yet, that’s exactly how he treats her. On the flip side, he knew from the very beginning that Kylee wasn’t even his biological daughter, and still, he showered her with affection. Honestly, even I, as her grandfather, can’t find a single flaw in the way he treats that child.”
A cold laugh escaped him.
“At first, I thought Baker’s kindness toward Kylee was nothing more than calculated courtesy, a way of staying in the good graces of the Happer family. He was terrified of the consequences if he mistreated her. But now…”

Lyle’s expression darkened as Galen’s words sank in.
His jaw tightened, and after a long silence, he finally asked, “Grandpa, do you think we should tell Carola about our suspicions concerning Belinda’s identity?”
“Not yet.” Galen shook his head with firm finality, not hesitating for even a moment.
“Right now, what we have are only suspicions, nothing concrete. We’ve already secured Belinda’s DNA. After the paternity results come back, we’ll tell Carola about the matter. That way, if things don’t turn out as we expected, she won’t have to endure unnecessary disappointment.”
His reasoning echoed the same restraint Lucas had shown in the past.
Lyle inclined his head.
“You have a good point.”
Then, as if remembering something suddenly, he lifted his gaze again.
