Chapter 1863:
For so long, she’d tormented herself, picking apart every moment, wondering what she had done to deserve such cruelty from her parents.
Why she’d been cursed with parents like these…
But now, knowing she wasn’t their biological daughter, the pieces finally fit together.
Johnson’s voice cut through her thoughts.
“Even if we think we’ve figured it out, we still don’t have proof. Better to wait for the paternity test results before we do anything.”
Belinda had had more than a few drinks, and by the time the evening wound down, she was feeling pleasantly tipsy. On the ride back, she leaned into Lucas, letting the cool night air streaming through the window clear her head.
Neither of them spoke with the driver present.
It wasn’t until they stepped inside their home that Lucas slipped an arm around her shoulders and said quietly, “Don’t overthink it for now. Let’s wait for the results. If it turns out Baker and Holley really did swap you and Kylee, I won’t let it slide. I will make them pay dearly.”
Belinda gave a small nod.
“Alright…”
But her troubled expression betrayed her unease.
“What is it? What else is on your mind?” Lucas’ deep, husky voice brushed her ear.
She turned her gaze toward him.
“Lucas… do you think there’s a real chance my biological parents could be Carola and Elwood?”
Lucas paused, weighing his words, then asked, “Do you want them to be your real parents?”
Just when he expected a firm nod, she surprised him by shaking her head gently. He blinked, caught off guard.
He was about to question her when she spoke first.
“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” Lucas asked.
“What kind of answer is that?”
Belinda drew in a slow breath.
“The truth is… when Elwood told me Kylee was his and Carola’s biological daughter, I honestly felt jealous. Because I truly like Carola, and I respect Elwood a great deal. They’re people I admire—people I enjoy talking to. So, when I learned that Kylee was their daughter, I felt that pang of envy. But…”
Her breathing grew heavier, emotion tightening her chest.
Belinda lingered in silence for a few seconds before finally admitting, “But when it hit me that they might actually be my biological parents, this wave of fear just washed over me. I don’t even know how to face something like that, let alone face them.”
Her emotions tangled into a knot.
Lucas could understand how Belinda felt.
No one could be expected to accept such a jarring shift in identity overnight.
Leaning in, he pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead and murmured, “If you don’t know how to face it, then don’t think about it for now. We’ll deal with it after the results come in. Until then, don’t wear yourself out with it.”
