Chapter 1860:
“That’s outrageous! Something is seriously off about Belinda’s parentage, then. Her real parents are not Baker and Holley! I’d bet those two paternity test centers used for the tests of Belinda and Holley were compromised. Maybe someone bribed the staff to fake the results!”
Lucas’ tone turned firm.
“I’ve got people digging into those two centers. Once we get blood samples from Holley and Baker, we’ll run the test somewhere else.”
Bethany frowned, murmuring under her breath, “Then… who are Belinda’s real parents?”
The room fell into silence after that question.
For a long moment, no one spoke.
Then Johnson broke the silence.
“If I’m not mistaken… Belinda and Kylee were born in the same hospital, on the same day, around the same time, right?”
His words hit like a thunderclap in the still room.
“Kylee?” Bethany’s head snapped up.
“You’re saying Belinda and Kylee might have been swapped? That the real illegitimate daughter is actually Kylee?”
“That’s right.” Johnson nodded, then turned to Belinda.
“It’s a strong possibility, isn’t it?”
Belinda did not reply, but her breathing quickened.
She had already considered the idea over dinner earlier. She suspected her biological parents might actually be Carola and Elwood.
But for now, there was no proof.
All they could do was wait for the results of the new paternity test.
Bethany suddenly connected the dots.
“Of course! If Belinda and Kylee’s identities were switched, then Baker and Holley’s illegitimate daughter would become the legitimate one—a cherished member of the Wright family and the granddaughter of Harold, who is very powerful. That changes everything.”
“Moreover, as Carola’s husband, Baker had every opportunity to swap the two babies. Even better for them, he and Holley still got to visit their real child whenever they pleased. They kept every advantage for themselves!”

With each realization, the weight in Bethany’s chest seemed to grow heavier.
Turning to Belinda, she continued, “If this is true, it explains why Baker, despite doting on Holley, treats you—the child everyone believes is theirs—with such cruelty. And why Holley and Baker started injecting you with growth hormones from such a young age and even gave you that mark on your face. Those weren’t random acts. They were meant to hide your resemblance to Carola because that could have blown their whole secret wide open.”
She went on, her tone sharp with analysis.
“First, since you weren’t their biological daughter, they felt no guilt about hurting you. Second—and most importantly—they were terrified that as you grew, you’d start looking more and more like Carola, and she might become suspicious. That’s why they deliberately made you overweight and plain-looking.”
After Bethany’s explanation, everyone found her reasoning convincing.
