Chapter 1834:
Tamara spoke again.
“Carola, enough with the innocent act. He’s your husband—do you really expect us to believe he kept this from you? As the child’s mother, are you seriously claiming you don’t know who the father is? Your family’s deceit is appalling, trying to pass off someone else’s bastard as Elwood’s!”
Carola’s hand slammed down on the coffee table, her eyes blazing with fury as she looked at Tamara.
“My daughter is not a bastard!” she snapped.
Taking a steadying breath, she added, “I know exactly who my daughter’s biological father is. She is Elwood’s daughter!”
Tamara’s anger flared hotter at Carola’s words.
Pointing an accusing finger at Carola, she spat, “Two paternity tests are staring you in the face, and you still insist Elwood is the father? How shameless can you be?”
“Mom!”
Elwood’s voice finally broke through, his tone cold as he fixed his mother with a stern look.
Tamara’s fury boiled over.
“You’re still defending her at this point? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”
“Mom, please, stop,” Nalani interjected.
Turning to Carola, she continued, “Carola, do you know why my mother is saying these things to you?”
Before Carola could even open her mouth, Nalani pressed on, even more cuttingly, saying, “Because the moment you gave birth, my mother sent someone to collect a blood sample from your daughter—and from my brother. The paternity test was done immediately.”
She paused, letting the weight of her words settle before delivering the blow.
“That’s when we learned… your child wasn’t Elwood’s.”
Baker and Kylee shot each other a quick, stunned glance, shock flashing in their eyes.
The Wright family had run a paternity test the day Kylee was born?

Suddenly, Baker understood—Tamara’s push for another test had never been about confirming Kylee’s connection to Elwood. She had only wanted to see if someone would tamper with the results.
A cold sweat prickled across his forehead.
Carola stood there, frozen, her eyes wide and vacant, like someone struck by lightning. Words stuck in her throat as her mind reeled.
“N-No… that’s not true… it can’t be!” she finally stammered, her voice cracking with disbelief.
Nalani looked at her, almost with pity. Her tone softened after a sigh.
“We don’t gain anything from lying to you. If your daughter were truly Elwood’s, she’d be part of our family. We would have embraced her. Back then, just after you married Baker and announced your pregnancy, my mother and I already suspected that your daughter might be Elwood’s.”
After a pause, she continued, “That’s why we arranged for the test. The samples were sent to three separate labs—reputable, independent centers. And they all came back with the same result: there’s no blood relationship between your daughter and my brother.”
Carola’s heart pounded so loudly that she could hear it in her ears. She couldn’t argue with this; she also knew the Wright family had no reason to deceive her.
