Belinda found herself growing colder and more detached. Whenever something like this happened, her instinct was to question it; there had to be more than met the eye.
Still, whether Sarai had a hand in it or not, one thing was clear: Kenia was safe and sound, and for that alone, Belinda was sincerely thankful.
Despite the doubts flickering in her mind, not a hint of suspicion showed on her face.
Kenia reached over, clutching Belinda’s hand, her expression still shadowed by lingering fear. “Belinda, it was Sarai who rescued us! If not for her, Margie and I… we might not have made it.”
Belinda’s tension had eased considerably once she learned that Kenia was unharmed.
Now the roles had reversed—she became the one offering comfort to Kenia. “It’s all right now, Grandma. Don’t worry. With the doctors here, Sarai will be fine.”
“Yes, yes! With the doctors here, Sarai will definitely be all right,” Kenia said, nodding again and again as if reassuring herself. Belinda turned her gaze to Margie. “Margie, have you seen that robber in the area before?”
Margie shook her head with certainty. “Never. And his behavior was strange—he seemed either drunk or completely dazed.”
Belinda’s eyes narrowed slightly as she considered this. “So the man was pretending to be a security guard. But where did he get the uniform?”
No security guard in that condition would ever be allowed to report for duty.
What was more, given the social standing of the residents there—most either wealthy or powerful—getting a security post there was no easy feat. Background checks were strict, and only those with spotless records could make it in. A man like that wouldn’t stand a chance.
So, he must have been pretending to be a security guard there. Still, the property management bore undeniable responsibility—perhaps even full accountability—for this lapse.
The idea that a criminal could slip through the cracks and into such a tightly guarded place was nothing short of shocking. If safety within the compound couldn’t be guaranteed, who in their right mind would choose to live there?

Belinda, Kenia, and Margie sat silently outside the operating room, waiting for Sarai’s surgery to end.
Time passed—how long, no one could tell—until at last, the operating room doors swung open and the doctor stepped out. Kenia sprang from the bench and hurried over. “Doctor, how is she?”
“Fortunately, the blade missed her heart by a few centimeters,” the doctor replied. “However, she’s not out of danger yet. She’ll need to remain in the ICU under close observation for a few days. If no complications arise, she can be moved to a standard ward.”
“Thank you, doctor,” Kenia said with a nod.
But her heart remained heavy.
