Noticing the concern etched on Harold’s face, Norma felt for him. She gently clasped his hand and said, “Let’s leave it to the younger generation to sort out. We’ve done what we can.”
Harold returned a gentle squeeze, saying nothing.
Fresh from a shower at her place, Belinda lounged in bed with Lucas, his arm draped around her shoulder.
“What was my mom talking to you about earlier?” Lucas asked. “She seemed so secretive.”
Belinda let out a soft laugh. “She was just asking about Carola. I didn’t realize until now that Carola and Norma have a good relationship.”
Lucas nodded, memories surfacing. “Yeah, they’ve been tight for years.”
With a small shrug, Belinda continued, “Norma’s worried about Carola, knowing how rough things have been for her lately. She asked me to spend some time with Carola, maybe offer her some comfort.”
Upon hearing this, Lucas didn’t say more about the matter.
After a pause, he spoke again, his tone serious. “I asked my dad about Faye’s parentage today.”
Belinda’s eyes widened in surprise. “What did he say?”
“He swore Faye is Georgie’s biological daughter and insisted that Georgie would never raise someone else’s child,” Lucas replied calmly. “He was so firm, but something feels off. Call it a gut instinct; I don’t think he’s being truthful with me. There’s something about Faye’s parentage he’s hiding.”
His eyes narrowed as he added, “Maybe her parentage involves something else, and that’s why he’s keeping it from me.”
Belinda frowned, muttering, “Sounds like we’re not getting the truth from him.”
Lucas’s brow furrowed in frustration. “Every time I’m around Faye now, I feel uncomfortable. I just want to avoid her completely.”

It was a new feeling for him, this need to distance himself from Faye. Since he couldn’t deal with the matter now, he would rather avoid her.
Belinda looked at him, taking his hand gently. “Just let things unfold naturally. Faye’s still your niece; you can’t avoid her forever. That’s not practical. Plus, acting distant might tip people off that something’s amiss.”
Lucas’s expression tightened. After a moment, he said in a low voice, “I just need some time to process everything.”
“Okay,” Belinda replied softly, nodding and leaving it at that.
The next day.
Baker stepped into a private room at a café.
Elwood hadn’t anticipated that Baker would take the initiative to meet him. As he sat across the table, eyeing the man before him, a storm of conflicting emotions brewed beneath his composed exterior.
Still, he kept his voice calm as he broke the silence. “So, what is it you want to discuss?”
Baker met his gaze without flinching, his tone firm and eyes unwavering. “Mr. Wright, you’re already aware of Kylee’s true parentage, aren’t you?”
