His unwanted wife, the world's coveted genius - Chapter 1740

Chapter 1740:

“What happened to your hand? How did you get hurt?” Jazmine’s voice carried a note of worry.

Belinda reassured her, “There’s no visible damage so far. I had a CT scan done, but I’m still waiting for the results. The doctor recommended I rest my hand for a couple of days, avoid heavy lifting or overuse.”

Jazmine chided gently, “You need to be more cautious, Belinda. You are a surgeon and a pianist. Do you realize how important your hands are?”

Belinda replied softly, “I know. It was just a minor accident. Don’t worry; I’ll take good care of my hands.”

Jazmine let out a soft sigh. “Alright, just focus on recovering. Try to keep up with your piano practice if you can, and let me know the moment you get the results of the CT scan.”

“Okay, I will!” Belinda promised.

After a brief chat, Belinda ended the call.

That evening, as Belinda and Lucas lay in bed, he pulled her close, his arms wrapped tightly around her.

His low, gravelly voice rumbled in her ear. “Belinda, tell me, when you ran out to save Carola today, what was going through your mind? Did you even consider yourself, or me?”

His words revealed he was still troubled by the day’s events.

Belinda pressed her lips together for a moment, searching for an answer. “Lucas, I don’t have a clear explanation for that, because I’m not even sure why I acted when Carola was in danger. It was pure instinct. When the robbers targeted Kylee, I didn’t move or think about saving her at all.”

She wasn’t a saint, and given her strained relationship with Kylee, risking her life for her was unthinkable.

After a pause, Belinda continued, “But when Kylee pushed Carola toward the robbers, and their leader seemed set on taking her, one thought consumed me. I couldn’t let anything happen to Carola, no matter what. Before I knew it, my body moved, and I rushed over to save her. That’s how it happened.”

After Lucas heard Belinda’s words, his brow creased faintly.

He fixed his gaze on her and said, “Belinda, you seem very invested in Carola’s well-being…”

Belinda understood what he meant and nodded. “You’re right. I feel a unique bond with her. Honestly, if it weren’t for her, my days with the Wright family would have been even tougher. So, consider this my way of giving back for how she protected me back then.”

She turned to Lucas, her tone earnest. “I know I acted rashly today, Lucas. But… if I could turn back time, I would make the same choice. I did weigh the risks before jumping in to save Carola. Those three robbers only had one gun. I figured if I could disarm them, my good fighting skills might give me a shot at taking them down.”

Biting her lip lightly for a moment, she added, “If I had done nothing and something had happened to Carola, I think I’d feel guilty for the rest of my life.”

Lucas’ face clouded over, his disapproval evident as he countered sharply, “Sure, they only had one gun, but how could you possibly know what they were capable of before engaging? What if all three were highly skilled fighters, far beyond your ability to handle? What would you have done then?”

His voice grew heavier with every word, fear creeping in. “What if those robbers saw you as a threat and shot you on the spot? What then?”
