Elwood felt truly furious.
His anger blazed not only at Baker, that contemptible scoundrel, but also at Carola.
When Elwood remained lost in brooding silence, his assistant asked cautiously, “Mr. Wright, what direction should our investigation take next?” The question yanked Elwood back from his spiraling thoughts.
He spoke with calculated composure. “Arrange to obtain a blood sample from Kylee and run it against mine for a DNA test.”
The assistant’s breath caught sharply at this request.
He was shocked, and ten seconds passed by before he found his voice again. “Are you suggesting that Carola’s daughter might not be Baker’s? That she could be yours?”
Elwood shook his head slowly, his expression a maze of conflicting emotions. “I have no way of knowing for certain. I can’t remember anything from the past. But something deep inside me tells me…”
He let the words hang in the air before continuing, his voice dropping to a rougher timbre. “Carola wouldn’t have rushed into marriage so recklessly, wouldn’t have conceived another man’s child with such haste. That’s why I need to investigate this thoroughly and determine whether her daughter shares any connection with me.”
After saying that, he added with grave emphasis, “Remember, this investigation must remain completely confidential.”
“Understood, I’ll handle this immediately!” his assistant replied without hesitation.
Hearing that, Elwood ended the call.

His mind began to drift through possibilities.
Something indefinable stirred within him, a conviction that grew stronger with each passing moment…
He believed he was the father of Carola’s daughter.
This conviction had grown stronger since he had heard Nalani reveal before that, immediately following their breakup, Carola had married Baker with shocking haste and gotten pregnant soon after.
The sequence of events had moved far too quickly to be coincidental.
So, he really needed to know who the father of Carola’s daughter was. Thinking of this, Elwood found his hands clenching involuntarily as anticipation mixed with nervousness coursed through his body.

Around noon, Belinda invited Bethany out for lunch.
After Bethany heard what Belinda had to say, her eyes widened in surprise. “You actually told Lucas directly that you suspect Faye has feelings for him?”
“I did,” Belinda replied with a nod. “At first, I thought there was no use telling Lucas something without any solid evidence—it would only burden him unnecessarily. But then, I remembered what had happened before. Back then, I had kept quiet when I suspected Faye had pushed me down the hill. That had really upset him. I had promised him I wouldn’t keep things from him again. So this time, I chose honesty.”
Bethany paused for a moment, then nodded in understanding. “I understand.”
