Chapter 1708:
Outwardly, she adopted a determined expression. “You’re right, Zaria! My father betrayed my mother first. For her happiness, I’ll do everything I can! I’ll make sure your father and my mother have more opportunities to cross paths.”
“Sounds good,” Zaria replied.
After a brief pause, she added, “By the way, I overheard my father on the phone with his assistant today. He mentioned wanting to dig into your mother’s past. It seems he’s curious about what happened back then.”
Zaria said it casually, but Kylee’s eyes narrowed, a flicker of something unusual flashing across her gaze. Elwood was looking into Carola now? A sudden realization hit Kylee, sparking quiet excitement.
They let the subject drop and continued their meal, chatting lightly about other topics. After dinner, they left the private dining room together.
Just then, the door to the room across from theirs opened. When they saw who emerged, both Kylee and Zaria froze in surprise. Belinda and her companions were equally stunned to run into Kylee and Zaria—quite the unexpected encounter.
Zaria quickly spoke up. “Nalani, Barbara, Ms. Wright—what a surprise! Are you all dining together?”
Her question was clearly just polite small talk. What caught her off guard was how close Belinda seemed to Nalani’s family. She could see it plainly; all three of them were beaming with genuine warmth. Barbara, in particular, was radiating a joy Zaria had never witnessed before.
“Mhm,” Nalani responded with a slight nod, offering no further comment.
Belinda and Barbara didn’t bother replying at all.
“We’ll head out now,” Nalani said to Zaria before departing with Belinda and Barbara.
As they walked away, Kylee gritted her teeth, silently fuming with a mix of envy and frustration. “I’m so jealous of Belinda. She just clicks with everyone—men, women, they all seem to adore her without her even trying,” she said.

At that, Zaria’s thoughts drifted to Darwin. Her face darkened at the thought.
Meanwhile, in the elevator, Barbara muttered under her breath, “I just don’t understand why Zaria’s so tight with Kylee. Every time Elwood sees her, something feels… off.”
Upon hearing Barbara’s comment, Belinda remained quiet, her lips pressed together.
Nalani cast a gentle, chastising glance at Barbara. “Your cousin’s friendships are hers to choose. She’s free to pick her friends, so let her be.”
Barbara playfully stuck out her tongue and fell silent.
In the parking lot, they prepared to go their separate ways. Before leaving, Barbara clasped Belinda’s hand, swaying it lightly with a smile. “Belinda, if you’ve got some free time in the future, give me a call to hang out, okay? I don’t have many friends, and staying home all day is so dull.”
Due to Barbara’s health concerns, Nalani planned to extend their stay in Owathe, not returning to Soling until Barbara’s condition was fully stable.
