Nalani watched his retreating figure, a faint crease forming on her brow. Was Elwood really dropping the matter? Just like that, no more questions? Something about it all felt off.
After leaving Nalani’s room, Elwood returned to his own, pulled out his phone, and dialed a number.
“Hello, Mr. Wright.” His assistant answered the call.
Elwood’s tone was ice-cold. “Investigate someone for me. Carola, the third daughter of the Happer family. I want everything—her past relationships, how she met her current husband, and the exact timeline of when she had her child. Don’t miss a single detail.”
Upon hearing Elwood’s instruction, his assistant didn’t probe further. He simply replied, “Yes. I’ll assign someone to investigate Carola immediately and report any findings without delay.”
“Keep it under wraps,” Elwood said, his tone firm.
“Understood.”
Once the call ended, Elwood’s grip tightened around his phone.
At the Cardiac Surgery Department of Grand Plains General Hospital. After lunch, Belinda was making her way back to the lounge when she pulled out her phone and dialed Lucas.
As soon as the call connected, she said, “Nalani called me earlier. She and Barbara invited me to dinner tonight. I agreed. Would you like to go with me?”
Lucas paused before responding, “I’ll sit this one out. You go ahead without me.”
Belinda didn’t press the issue. “Alright then.”
Lucas said, “Let me know when you’re almost done. I’ll go and pick you up.”

“There’s no need for that,” Belinda said gently. “I’ll drive myself.”
“Okay then. Just drive safely.”
“I will. Don’t worry,” Belinda replied with a light tone.
They chatted for a while longer before ending the call.
In the evening, after finishing up at work, Belinda drove to the restaurant. By the time she stepped into the private dining room, Nalani and Barbara were already waiting.
“Belinda!” Barbara called out, beaming with warmth as she stood up and hurried over, looping her arm through Belinda’s.
Belinda gave Barbara a fond smile and gently tousled her hair before greeting Nalani. “Mrs. Dury, good evening.”
Nalani cast her a half-teasing glance and said, “You’re still calling me Mrs. Dury? That’s far too stiff—we’re not holding a business meeting here.”
Barbara eagerly nodded. “Exactly, Belinda. We’re close. Don’t be so formal!”
“From now on, just call me Nalani!” Nalani said with a smile.
